Irish President asks Guterres to invoke Chapter VII against Israel

Dublin. SANA-Irish President Michael D. Higgins has called on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to take urgent action regarding Israel’s crimes of genocide and starvation in Gaza Strip and to invoke Chapter Seven of the UN Charter against Israel.

The Middle East Monitor (MEM) quoted Higgins as saying that Secretary-General must use his powers under Chapter seven of the UN Charter to bypass Security Council gridlock  and deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, stressing that what is happening in the Strip is ” “incredible, incredible destruction of an entire people.”

“Are we to watch children starving, women dehydrated, or trying to feed their children? So, something must happen,” he said.

Referring to blocked humanitarian aid, Higgins added: “There are 6,000 trucks with enough food for three months, and it has been blocked, and it is outrageous.”
