Damascus, SANA- Damascus Metro Project is the base for an integrated urban transportation network that connects densely populated areas with major business centers in the city with a capacity of transporting 750 000 passengers daily.
Therefore, this project was chosen to be top priority among investment projects signed today in memoranda of understanding with several international companies in the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the People’s Palace in Damascus.
The project extends from the Al Moadamyeh southwestern Damascus to Qaboun in the north eastern, with a 26.5 kilometers length. It includes 17 stations serving vital neighborhoods such as Mezzeh, Damascus University, Al-Hijaz, Tahrir Square, Abbasid Square, and the Pullman Bus station in the Qaboun area.
The Damascus Metro “Green Line” project represents a major urban economic development, bridging the gaps in congestion and population expansion and will be able to transport approximately 250,000 visitors, 300,000 employees, and 70,000 students daily.
The Metro line will also be connected to the Hejaz and Qaboun railway stations and other future transport lines, making it a central hub in the transportation network.
The metro structure will be of diverse options, in some areas it will be tunnels, in others will be bridges, and surface works, depending on the specificities of each area and its urban and visual impact.
The project also includes the construction of an interchange center at the Al-Sumaria area, opposite the West Departure Center, with a garage for 1,000 cars to connect the metro to other types of transportation.
