Official source at Ministry of Justice: Judges of the so-called “Higher Legal Committee” in Sweida were referred to investigation

Damascus, SANA- An official source at the Ministry of Justice said Thursday that judge members in the so-called “Higher Legal Committee” in Sweida have been referred to the Inspection Directorate for investigation under the provisions of the Judicial Authority Law.

The source told SANA: “Social media have circulated news about the formation of local committees in Sweida Governorate, headed by the so-called “Higher Legal Committee,” which issued a number of decisions to form other committees of an administrative, security, and service nature.

“The committees included the following judges: Muhannad Abu Faour, Ayman Al-Harfoush, Mufid Amasha, Issam Al-Arawi, Shadi Murshid, and Moataz Al-Sayegh” the official source added.

The source said that ” these judges carried jobs which contravene the duties imposed on judges under the provisions of the Judicial Authority Law, particularly Articles 78 and following, which prohibit a judge from combining judicial duties with another profession, expressing political opinions and leanings, or engaging in politics”.

“Since the work undertaken by these judges is purely political, conflicts with national interests, and incites for division and disunity, they have been referred to the Inspection directorate to investigate the allegations against them and take appropriate action against anyone proven to have participated in these activities” the source concluded.
