Baghdad, SANA-Energy Minister, Mohammed al-Bashir, and Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, discussed Tuesday joint coordination between the two countries regarding the waters of the Euphrates River.
A proposal was also put forward to hold a tripartite meeting between Syria, Iraq, and Turkey to discuss issues related to the river’s waters.
The two ministers discussed during the meeting, held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the 1987 and 1989 water agreements, which determine each of the three countries’ share of Euphrates River waters.
The two sides agreed to form joint technical teams to visit measuring stations in Jarabulus, northern Syria, and to upgrade monitoring equipment and devices to ensure the accuracy of river water data.
