DAMASCUS, SANA – Firefighting teams from the Syrian Civil Defense, the Forestry Directorate continued Wednesday to combat more than 20 fires across the coastal countryside, Hama, and western Idlib for the third consecutive day.
According to Civil Defense official Wissam Zidane, several fires have been brought under control in Lattakia, Tartous, and Hama governorates, while others remain active due to rugged terrain, high winds, and soaring temperatures. Additional firefighting units from Aleppo have been deployed, and residents are assisting in suppression efforts.
Some fires reached residential areas, damaging homes in the village of Anab before being contained. The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management is coordinating with government agencies under an urgent response plan involving water supply, heavy equipment, and the creation of firebreaks to limit further spread.
