Forest fire extinguished in Tartus countryside

Tartus, SANA-The Syrian Civil Defense, the firefighting battalions, and local residents extinguished a fire that broke out on Friday in the forests of Bamlaka in Tartus countryside.

Tartus Emergency and Disaster Management Director Abdul-Moneim Satif said to SANA that the fire started in the city’s forest lands and spread to some agricultural areas.

“The teams, in cooperation with local residents, managed to control the fire’s sources, prevent its spread to larger areas, and cool the area,” he added.

The fire spread to the administrative border between the governorates of Tartus and Hama, near the village of Ain al-Shams, as strong winds favored its spread.

Firefighters and the local community continue to work intensively to contain the blaze.
