Damascus, SANA – Minister of Health Dr. Musab al-Ali and Idlib Governor Mohammad Abdul Rahman discussed on Sunday the medical services situation in Idlib governorate.
The meeting focused on improving the quality of therapeutic health services, developing and training the medical workforce, and establishing a unified health information system.
Discussions also addressed the suspension of organizational support to more than 18 hospitals, as well as ways to strengthen health care, assess current needs, and plan for building and renovating health centers to accommodate returnees from displacement camps.
For his part, Idlib Health Director Dr. Samer Arabi said the governorate has 61 hospitals, some of which are out of service while others operate with support from humanitarian organizations.
He added that there are 141 health centers across Idlib, including 45 that are inactive, 32 operating voluntarily, 66 supported by organizations, and five centers ready to be opened.
Syria’s health sector has faced severe challenges over the past decade due to sanctions, and the destruction of medical infrastructure. Many hospitals and health centers were damaged or rendered out of service, while others became dependent on temporary support from international and humanitarian organizations.
Efforts to develop a unified health information system and strengthen local medical capacity are part of broader national plans to improve service delivery and guarantee access to essential health care for all citizens.
