Beirut, SANA-Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that his country is seeking to improve relations with Syria, noting that there is security and military coordination between the two sides.
“We are working to boost our relationship with Syria in terms of security and military coordination under the sponsorship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Border demarcation is essential in this context, and we are awaiting a Syrian envoy to elevate the relationship to a higher level.” Aoun said in an interview with Al Arabiya and Al Hadath on Sunday.
Aoun said that economic cooperation between Beirut and Damascus falls within the framework of positions on the paper presented by U.S. envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, which became a Lebanese paper after incorporating Lebanese amendments. He stressed that this paper will only become effective with the approval of the concerned parties.
He stated that Saudi Arabia played an important role in ending the presidential vacuum and supported Lebanon during its crises. It also worked to improve relations with Syria and demarcate borders, with Saudi support and sponsorship.
