UN official: the presence of Israeli forces in the disengagement zone violation of 1974 treaty

New York, SANA-United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, reiterated that the presence of the Israeli occupation forces in the buffer zone of the Syrian Golan is considered as a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

‘’the presence of Israeli forces in the disengagement zone is a violation as only UNDOF can have a military presence there, according to the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement’’ Lacroix said in a statement to reporters at the United Nations HQ in New York.

“Contacts with the New Syrian authorities paved the way for UN forces to resume and expand their operations in the area,” Lacroix said.
