Iraqi Prime Minister Affirms His Country’s keenness on Syria’s Unity

Baghdad, SANA- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani affirmed his country’s keenness on Syria’s unity and stability.

Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported that al-Sudani said in an interview with the Associated Press that “Syria represents a national security for Iraq, its stability is important to us, we are keen for the Syrian people to enjoy security and stability and a political process that includes all its components”.

The Iraqi prime minister added that “There must be a clear stance against terrorism, violence, hatred, and extremism. What some groups have done in Syria is horrific and regrettable, reminiscent of the terrorism that struck Iraq.”

Al-Sudani added that Iraq “rejects the division of Syria, and we presented an initiative to establish a national dialogue among the components of the Syrian people at the Arab Summit held in Baghdad.”

Regarding the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip, Al-Sudani said: “What is happening in Gaza is a real setback for all humanitarian, moral, and legal standards, and it paints a bleak future for the international community”.

“Gaza is witnessing genocide amidst famine and killing” he added saying that the continued issuance of statements, condemnations, and expressions of concern are unacceptable.

He called on “all parties to shoulder their responsibilities to stop the aggression and take the initiative to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.”
