Tartous Citrus Production estimated at 150,000 tons

Tartous, SANA- Tartous Agriculture Directorate estimated the governorate’s initial citrus production for the current agricultural season at approximately 149,845 tons of various types, an increase of 2,000 tons over last year.

Tartous Agriculture Director Hassan Hamadeh explained to a SANA reporter that “citrus trees rank second in importance in the governorate after olive trees”.

He added that the area planted with citrus fruits amounts to 9,189 hectares, with a total number of approximately 3,416,025 trees, of which 3,292,568 are fruitful. These trees are distributed into four groups: lemons, oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit.

Hamada pointed out that old orchards have been rejuvenated for farmers who wish to renovate them.
