UN warns of deteriorating catastrophic of the situation in Gaza

New York, SANA-UN agencies have warned of the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, with widespread hunger, malnutrition, and severe shortages of basic supplies.

At the same time, they reiterated their call for increased aid delivery to the Strip.

The UN News website quoted the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as calling for expanded aid delivery to meet the enormous needs of the people .

The UN Office emphasized the need to open all border crossings, allow the entry of a wide range of humanitarian and commercial supplies, ensure the timely movement of aid within Gaza, and allow humanitarian workers to carry out their work.

UN officials pointed out to the inability of the organization and its partners to deliver sufficient aid to Gaza due to a number of interconnected factors.

Among them, he listed bureaucratic, logistical, administrative, and other operational obstacles imposed by the Israeli authorities, as well as access restrictions within Gaza.

UNICEF: The situation in Gaza is horrific

UNICEF Director of Communications Ricardo Pérez described the situation in Gaza as “absolutely horrific,” asserting that “it is hard to believe what you are seeing, but it is reality.”

Following his visit to Gaza this week, Pérez told UN News that the situation in Gaza is characterized by deprivation and despair.

“We are on the verge of a man-made drought, with only about 40 percent of Gaza’s water production available, far below the emergency threshold anywhere in the world,” he added.
