Syria participates in UN conference on Plastic Pollution Crisis Treaty

Geneva, SANA- The United Nations conference on the Plastic Pollution Crisis Treaty kicked off ,Tuesday in the Swiss capital, Geneva, as part of the second round of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC‑5.2), with the participation of Syria.

Engineer Muhammad Yassin Houria, Assistant Minister of Economy and Industry represented Syria at the conference, from August 5-14.

The conference aims to finalize a legally binding global treaty to address plastic pollution, and is considered crucial due to the projected rise in global plastic waste and its significant environmental and health impacts.

The conference is a vital platform that includes delegations from more than 170 countries, in addition to representatives of international organizations, environmental experts, industrial companies, and civil society institutions, where ideas and strategies will be exchanged to address one of the most important environmental challenges facing the world today.
