Official Source: SDF conference deals a blow to ongoing negotiation efforts, the government will not participate in Paris meetings

Damascus, SANA- A Syrian Government Official Source said on Saturday that a conference held by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Northeast Syria does not represent a comprehensive national framework, but rather a fragile alliance that includes sides which were harmed by the victory of the Syrians and the fall of the deposed regime.

“Some parties that monopolized or trying to monopolize the representation of the spectrums of Syria by force of fait accompli, based on external support, resort to such conferences to escape the requirements of the future in denial of the principles of the Syrian State based on one army, one government, and one country,” the official source said in a statement regarding the SDF conference.

The source added that the Syrian government affirms that the right of citizens to peaceful gathering and constructive dialogue, whether at the level of regions or at the national level, is a right guaranteed and encouraged by the State, provided it comes within the framework of a comprehensive national project that embraces the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.

“The government stresses that religious or national groups have the full right to express their political visions, hold their meetings, and establish their parties within national legal frameworks, provided that their activities are peaceful, and they do not take up arms against the state, and that they do not impose their vision about the  from of the Syrian state,” the source affirmed.

It went on to say that “The form of the state will not be decided through factional understandings, but rather through a lasting constitution approved by popular referendum, ensuring equal participation for all citizens.”

Any citizen has the right to present his/ her vision about the state, but this can only be achieved through public dialogue and ballot boxes, not through threats or armed force, the source said.

“The government stresses that SDF conference dealt a blow to the ongoing negotiation efforts, accordingly, the government will not participate in any meetings scheduled in Paris, nor will it sit at the negotiation table with any side seeking to revive the era of the deposed regime under any name or cover,” the source said.

It called on SDF to seriously engage in implementing the March 10 agreement, and it also called on international brokers to transfer all negotiations to Damascus, as it is the legitimate and national address for dialogue among Syrians.

The source concluded the conference is a violation of  the entitlements to which the Syrian government has begun to implement, including the formation of the Transitional Justice Commission and the national dialogue process launched by the Syrian government last February, which will continue until the country is brought to safety.
