Capitals, SANA- A recent medical study has warned that “pregabalin, the pain-relieving drug” prescribed to millions of people worldwide in order to treat chronic nerve pain, anxiety, and epilepsy and to relieve pain, may increase the risk of heart failure (HF).
According to British newspaper “Daily Mail”, researchers from Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York found that this drug may contribute to heart failure up to 48 %, particularly in the elderly.
The study said that the pregabalin raises the risk of heart failure to 85 %, particularly in those with a history of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
During the four-year study, 1,470 patients were admitted to the hospital due to heart failure, as researchers found that for every 1,000 people taking pregabalin, there are about 6 additional cases of heart failure per year compared to those who did not take it.
