Al-Shaibani sends a letter of appreciation to Chairman of International Commission of Inquiry on Syria

Damascus, SANA – Foreign and Expatriates Minister Assad Hassan Al-Shaibani expressed his gratitude to Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, Chair of the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, for the Commission’s latest report on the coastal events, stressing its alignment with the findings of the Independent National Fact-Finding Committee and Syria’s commitment to incorporating its recommendations into the process of institution-building and strengthening the rule of law.

Al-Shaibani noted that, for the first time in the country’s history, the new Syrian government granted the Commission unrestricted access to the affected coastal areas, and welcomed the report’s acknowledgment of the accountability measures taken and the absence of any government policy to commit violations, confirming that investigations are ongoing and several individuals have been detained.

He added that the report addressed challenges inherited from the former regime, the collapse of the judiciary, and violations committed by remnants of Assad’s forces, emphasizing that its recommendations constitute a roadmap for reform. He concluded by reaffirming Syria’s readiness to continue constructive cooperation with the international community, based on mutual respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
