Over 50 Fire Brigades Battle Forest Fires in Latakia and Hama Countryside

Latakia–Hama, SANA – More than 50 fire brigades from civil defense units and forest firefighting teams, supported by local residents and Ministry of Defense helicopters, are continuing efforts to contain widespread forest fires in the countryside of Latakia and Hama.

The brigades, equipped with firefighting vehicles, water tanks, and heavy machinery, have received reinforcements from several governorates to open access roads and create firebreaks to halt the spread of flames.

Minister of Emergency Management Raed al-Saleh said the teams succeeded in stopping the advance of fires in multiple villages across both governorates. However, he noted that several hotspots persist in rugged mountainous areas.

Al-Saleh pointed out that strong winds, high temperatures, difficult terrain, and the presence of war remnants are hampering extinguishing efforts, stressing the crucial role of local residents in supporting firefighting operations.
