Italy pledges additional €7 million to support displaced Syrians

Rome, SANA – Italy said on Sunday it will provide an additional €7 million to support reintegration programs for refugees and displaced people returning to their places of origin in Syria.

Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Embassy in Syria, Stefano Ravanian, said on the X platform that €6 million will go to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and €1 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The new pledge comes on top of €68 million announced in March for humanitarian projects and reconstruction efforts in Syria. Earlier this month, Italy’s development agency (AICS) allocated €3 million to the World Health Organization to help strengthen Syria’s capacity to detect and respond to disease outbreaks.
