Valletta, SANA-Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that his country will recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly next September.
Reuters quoted Abela as saying in a Facebook post: “Our position expresses our commitment to efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.”
The Maltese government has faced growing internal pressure from within its ranks to recognize a Palestinian state.
It is noteworthy that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Wednesday, July 29, that his country will recognize the State of Palestine next September, calling for an immediate ceasefire to end the massacre in the Gaza Strip and to allow the continued flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip to prevent famine.
