Geneva, SANA-United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Monday that the number of Syrian refugees who returned home from neighboring countries since the fall of the deposed regime on December 8th, 2024, until August 14, 2025, has reached 779,473.
The UNHCR said in its periodic report that the return of internally displaced continues as approximately 1,694,418 ones having returned to their homes since the same date.
In this context, the international organization added that the number of Syrian refugees returning from Jordan has exceeded 133,000 since last December.
In a statement to SANA, UNHCR spokesperson in Syria, Celine Schmitt, affirmed that the Commissioner is keen on supporting returnees who have decided to return despite the challenges, particularly the financial ones, noting that many returnees found their homes and basic service infrastructure destroyed.
Schmitt underlined the need for more support beyond humanitarian aid, elaborating that the UNHCR continues to coordinate with development stakeholders to mobilize the necessary development support.
Between August 6th and 12th, UNHCR facilitated the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees through Bab al-Hawa, al-Salama, and Jouseah border crossings as 318 families, comprising 776 individuals have returned.
